Yep, you're right. It's a rib on the receiver cover present on AKM and AK74 models, that better maintains the cover in place (especially when firing). It is still present on the non-ribbed RPK74M cover, but after inquiring the matter, it's indeed left out on later AK74M/10x smooth covers.
