[WIP] PSO-1 / ПСО-1

It's almost done, still some slight specular issues to fix.

  1. Could you make 3D optics (for example, like Acog in many next gen-shooters)? 2D texture of reticle sucks, because we can't see shooting anim (bolt working, shell ejection etc).

  2. The ACOG, Red Dot and such, in these "next gen-shooters" is usually used as an alternative to iron sights, not as magnifying optics.
The PSO-1, in this case, is mainly long-range optics, thus it needs some consequent magnification. And, as far as I know, there is no way of applying that magnification to just the lens.
Besides, even in the real world, aiming from such a scope, you won't see much else, neither the shellcase, nor the bolt moving (which you won't see even when not aiming, anyway...).
Thus, for long-range optics such as this, no 3D optics is really possible (haven't ever seen it being used this way in any game, btw).

  3. But the most often used ACOG in games is the TA01NSN, which give the same zoom as old PSO-1. Or for example the Eotech with magnifer, which gives 3.5 zoom. But how I understood, there is another problem, the realization in the game.
Anyway thanks for argumented answer. Your mod is still awesome :D.
By the way: are you Russian? Тогда какого черта я пишу по-английски :D.

    1. Technically, yes, these have the same zoom. But the way I've seen them being used ingame with 3D optics is always as "embellished" iron sights, not magnifying optics. But even if it could be done (which probably is the case), I doubt it'll be very practical, as due to the magnification, the view would need to be very close to the lens, basically filling the screen and blurring the area around it. In other words, it would end up being essentially the same thing, as you won't be able to see any of the rifle anyway...
And no, I'm not Russian, although I read and understand Russian quite well. :-) However, when I'm speaking or writing, I always get the endings wrong (not to mention some words), thus I prefer sparing this torture to my interlocutors... :-)

    2. In fairness, there is no blur effect even in vanilla lever-action rifles, which sights are close to optic ones. It wouldn't be same thing in 3rd person mode, making SVD acting as marksman rifle without opening 2d texture of crosshair.
I thought only "profissional russian" could make AKs' models so close to real ones. So I was wrong :).

  4. What other weapons are you planning to use this scope on? The AK-74M, and the 100 series have the side mount already.

    1. PSO-1 isn't compatible with ak side mount, if you want to use PSO optic on ak, you need another version (for example PSO 4x24V):

But i would personaly prefer to have 1P29 optic.

    2. Actually it is, to some point. I mean it can be fixed on these rails without modifications, but then it stands too far back to be really useful. Here's a picture of such a configuration :

Some specially adapted PSO-1s were produced in a very limited number for the army during the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan. It was basically the same base, but with the forward stop pin removed and the addition of a rear stopping bracket.
The design you linked to is a much more recent variant, and it's what I'll be using for attaching it to the RPK(74)N.
By the way, thanks for that picture - I was looking for it for some time and couldn't find it back. :-)
