Model info :
A BTR-80 model I started 2010, destined to the Crysis engine.
The model is complete (could need some corrections here & there) and is UV mapped. Work was "suspended" (don't remember exactly why...) while drawing the camouflage pattern.
Technical info :
The BTR-80 is an 8x8
wheeled amphibious APC, in service since 1986. It is an improvement to the
BTR-70 especially what the side doors are concerned. These are taller, split
horizontally and form a platform when opened (while the upper portion opens forward,
giving dismounting troops some protection against small arms fire from the
front of the vehicle) and thus significantly reducing the risk of a trooper being
crushed by the rear wheels when disembarking while the vehicle is moving.
Unlike its
predecessors, the BTR-80 has a single 260-hp, V-8 turbocharged, water-cooled,
diesel engine. Another difference is the orientation of the firing ports, which are
facing towards the front of the vehicle. These are done this way, since the
BTR-80 was not designed as a standard APC (thus using the fire ports only for
defensive purpose), but rather as an assault vehicle.
The turret
has been redesigned to allow a higher gun elevation (up to 60°) and has a
platform supporting eight smoke pods.
There are
numerous modifications of the vehicle, including the BTR-80A, equipped with a
30mm gun, also used by the BMP-2.
Unfortunately
it has several notable design flaws, such a lack of ergonomics, especially for
the gunner's position and an insufficient protection against heavier weapons.
